About this Board
Steve brings a down-to-earth and practical approach to the challenges associated with running business thanks to his 30 years’ experience in CEO and General Management roles within NZ and Australia’s small to medium business sector.
His broad commercial skillset has been developed through exposure to a wide variety of industries including, banking and finance, automotive, hospitality and property. His responsibilities have included developing and managing the execution of strategic plans, financial management, and developing, motivating and managing staff levels ranging in size from 10-200.
During his time in the banking and finance sector, Steve was heavily involved in lending to small to medium-sized businesses. He says: “Working in this area necessitated the need to clearly understand how such businesses operate and the challenges and opportunities that small to medium-sized business owners face in their day to day activities. This understanding is invaluable when helping members of The Alternative Board.”
In addition to his executive roles, Steve has gained board room experience through chairing two not-for-profit organisations, over a combined period of twelve years, gaining valuable insight into the key differences between the governance and operational aspects of a business.
Steve also has an altruistic element to his make up and is currently a Board Member on the Rangiora-Ashley Community Board and has been lead Judge for the past 8 years with the North Canterbury Business Awards
As the owner of The Alternative Board in Christchurch and North Canterbury, Steve relishes the opportunity to use his background and experience to provide a rewarding membership experience to North Canterbury and the wider Christchurch local business owners and business leaders.
