Wellington Business Coach
DARYL NARAIN
Daryl has an extremely diverse business background spanning over 35 years including both Wellington-based businesses and others around the globe. The industries he has been involved in range from transport to inbound tourism, from recruitment to technology-based marketing.
His roles have been diverse, including Company Directorships, CEO and Board Chairman positions. This has given him a wealth of experience in understanding the differences between the governance and operational aspects of a business.
Daryl successfully guided two major companies that were significantly impacted by the GFC and the Christchurch earthquake from imminent failure to a bright new future with ongoing positive opportunities. Several businesses Daryl has directed have been recognised as industry leaders and one of those was specifically acknowledged for its contribution to the Wellington economy. As a business owner, Daryl is well aware of the challenges small to medium business owners face on a day to day basis.
Daryl is particularly passionate about businesses that recognise their people as being their most valuable asset and lifting performance through people-led business growth. As a graduate of Victoria University with a commerce degree majoring in accountancy, Daryl also has a strong focus on the importance of accurate and timely financial reporting.
Daryl has had a lifetime involvement with motorsport, from track racing to the Targa Rally. Basically, if it has wheels, Daryl will want to drive it or ride it. One of the highlights of his time motor racing was driving in the Nissan Mobil Wellington Street Race. He strongly believes that there are many lessons to learn from sport, particularly team performance, that carry over into business.
Daryl enjoys the new connections and friendships he is making providing a beneficial and productive membership experience to Wellington businesses and their leaders with The Alternative Board.
